Application of Tradical Hemcrete

Tradical Hemcrete

Lime Technology has launched Tradical ®Hemcrete®, a new product innovation of cast in situ hemp-lime walling. It comprises a unique blend of specially prepared hemp shiv (Tradical® HF) and a special lime based binder (Tradical® HB); which together form a bio-composite building material. The hemp, which forms the key element in these products, is largely grown and havested in the UK. Tradical ®Hemcrete® provides one of the best value materials for low impact, sustainable and commercially viable construction.

Coverage

Coverage rates vary depending on thicknesses and methods of application. 300mm thick wall - approx. 300l per m² spray application or up to 450l per m² for shuttered, 500mm thick wall - 500l per m² for spray application or up to 750l for shuttered.

Pricing

Sold in 200l bales of Tradical HF and 22kg bags of Tradical HB. From £85 per cubic metre.

Prices vary according to use. Please call for exact pricing.

Mortars, Plasters and Renders

Ready-mixed Hydraulic Mortars and Sprayable Plasters

There are three standard mortars which cover a range of likely applications both for conservation and new build. These are as follows: -

Limetec eminently hydraulic mortar

For use where a higher level of durability is required; i.e. masonry exposed to severe weather.

Limetec moderately hydraulic mortar

For most normal applications i.e. cavity brickwork, blockwork and stonework.

Limetec feebly hydraulic mortar

For use with softer bricks and stone, solid wall construction and conservation masonry.

Coverage

For bricklaying assume approximately 1kg wet mortar per brick, 25kg dry mortar produces 30kg wet mortar.

A 25kg bag contains approximately 15 liters of mortar.

Pricing

Limetec eminently hydraulic mortar
From £10.50 per 25kg bag
Limetec moderately hydraulic mortar
From £9.75 per 25kg bag
Limetec feebly hydraulic mortar
From £9.75 per 25kg bag

Lime Putty Mortars and Plasters

Back to Earth lime mortars and plasters use the finest Buxton Lime, local sands and rainwater harvested from the roofs of our buildings to produce high quality products ideal for building conservation.

Coarse mortar

Manufactured with a high quality, extremely versatile coarse sharp sand to give a very low shrinkage multi purpose mortar - used for pointing, bricklaying, stonework, rendering and plastering. This product is sold in 1000kg bags or to special order in 25kg tubs.

Finishing plaster

Manufactured with a fine silver sand (a waste product of the China Clay industry) and ultra fine quicklime to produce a finishing plaster with low shrinkage and good finishing properties. This product is sold in 25kg tubs.

Coverage

For coarse mortar/plaster - when rendering cob/rough stonework 10 - 15 m² per tonne. When rendering brickwork or flat stonework allow 15 - 20 m² per tonne. When laying earth blockwork allow around 150 blocks per tonne of mortar.

For finishing plaster allow 2 - 2.5 m² per 25kg tub.

Pricing

Coarse mortar
From £100 per tonne
Finishing plaster
From £7.00 per 25kg tub

Natural Hydraulic Limes

During the last 25 years, Lime has enjoyed a steady revival for repairs to historic buildings. The soft, porous and flexible nature of lime mortars and plasters is now universally recognized as being vital to maintain the traditional breathing performance of old buildings. In addition, an increasing number of architects, engineers, surveyors and builders are now beginning to realise that lime has many benefits to offer in new construction: provides one of the best value materials for low impact, sustainable and commercially viable construction.

Coverage

A 25kg bag of hydraulic lime when mixed 3:1 with the appropriate sand will make approx. 125kg mortar /plaster. This is equivalent to 60 liters of mortar or 3 - 4 m² of rendering dependent on surface being rendered.

Pricing

From £9.50 per 25kg bag

Earth Blocks

Naterra

Developed through a project sponsored by the Waste Resources Action Program (WRAP), these blocks contain a mixture of clay with just over 50% recycled plasterboard.

Coverage

Sumatec compressed clay blocks - 12.5 on edge or 28.5 if laid flat.

Naterra clay/plasterboard blocks - approximately 10 per square meter.

  • High compressive and tensile strength
  • Engineered to use thin joint mortars for fast, economic construction

Earth Blocks

Sumatec

These compressed earth blocks, made from brick-making waste, have been developed to combine extremely high strength, high thermal mass and good acoustic properties.

  • High compressive strength - up to 17N
  • Provide good sound insulation and thermal mass
  • Fully recyclable and biodegradeable

Hemp Blocks

We offer two types of blocks for low carbon construction. The load-bearing block is a carbon-neutral block with excellent thermal capacity and high compressive strength. The insulating block is a non-load-bearing, carbon-sequestering block with excellent insulation properties.

  • Suitable for Low or Zero carbon construction
  • Fully recyclable and bio-degradeable
  • Lightweight and easy to use

NBT Thermoplan System

This is a thin-bed insulated structural solid wall system. The blocks are made from fired aerated clay, planed to extremely high tolerances, laid in a very thin joint mortar for incredibly fast construction.

  • Low embodied energy, 70% less than conventional masonry
  • Incredibly fast construction
  • Complete building arrives as a kit!

Cob Blocks

These blocks are locally made for conservation and restoration works. They are extruded and air-dried in the sun to give very low embodied energy.

  • Suitable for repair and restoration of cob buildings
  • Locally made to keep transport to a minimum
  • Fully recyclable and bio-degradeable

Clay Bricks

These unfired bricks are used for coursing around lintels, etc. in new cob block work or for small repairs to cob buildings.

Hemcoat Insulating Plaster

This renovating/insulating plaster, made from a finer grade of hemp shiv than used in Tradical Hemcrete, can be used to build up substantial thicknesses of plaster to upgrade existing solid walls. It is ideal for use in barn conversions or for renovation of cob/stone/brick/buildings.

  • Fully breathable so preventing moisture issues
  • Highly insulating, enabling simple upgrading of solid masonry walls
  • Easy to use and can be built up to substantial thicknesses

Breathe Hemp Insulation

A more efficient thermal and acoustic insulation than mineral wool, manufactured in the UK from UK-grown hemp. Breathe is excellent for the installer as it is not an irritant; and for every 10kg you use, you lock up just over 18kg of CO2

  • Breathable so helps to regulate humidity
  • Made in the UK from UK-grown hemp
  • Thermal peformance better than most mineral wools

NBT Pava and Diffutherm Systems

Both ranges are based on a board made from waste wood fibre, which gives high insulation and remains breathable.

The board itself is impregnated with various materials depending on its application; and can be used even for steel and timber framing. These sytems offer extremely fast construction with very good results.

  • Made from waste materials; reclyclabe and biodegradeable
  • High levels of insulation
  • Suitable for Low or Zero carbon construction
