Tradical® Hemcrete® is a carbon negative, bio-composite building material made of hemp and a lime based binder. Hemcrete® has excellent thermal properties and is ideal for creating comfortable buildings which meet the higher levels of the Code for Sustainable Homes and BREEAM standards.

Hemcrete® is a proven, robust, highly breathable and sustainable construction product, that can be cast or sprayed.

The hemp (Tradical® HF) and the lime binder (Tradical® HB) are mixed together to become Tradical® Hemcrete® which is used for the construction of walls but can also be used in roofs to create buildings with excellent thermal, breathable and acoustic properties, creating healthy living and working environments.

Hemcrete® is a lightweight material that achieves a negative carbon footprint as it locks up approximately 130kg of CO² per m³ of wall and when protected by Limetec lime renders and plasters, provides one of the best value walling systems for high thermal mass, well insulated, breathable, sustainable and commercially viable construction.

Hemcrete® is not a load bearing material. It is normally cast or sprayed around a timber or steel frame and relies on the frame to carry the vertical loads of the roof and upper floors down to the ground. The lightweight nature of Hemcrete® means that lightweight timber framing and foundation structures may be considered to reduce costs and construction time. Hemcrete® provides some racking strength for the frame and as a result the frame may not need additional bracing.

The high thermal performance and air-tightness of the Hemcrete® means that single skin structures are sufficient and do not require additional insulation layers, This avoids the need for cavity wall construction. The ability of the walls to breathe and to store heat allows for passive self regulation of the temperature and humidity within the building, often reducing the need for heating and air conditioning.

Limetec Lime Mortars

During the last 25 years, Lime has enjoyed a steady revival for repairs to historic buildings. The soft, porous and flexible nature of lime mortars and plasters is now universally recognised as being vital to maintain the traditional breathing performance of old buildings. In addition, an increasing number of architects, engineers, surveyors and builders are now beginning to realise that lime has many benefits to offer in new construction. Lime Technology (working with CPI EuroMix) has developed a solution to this problem in the form of dry, pre-mixed hydraulic lime mortar, produced using factory precision batching techniques to tried and tested recipes gained through years of experience.

For large projects and building developments, where flexibility and vapour permeability are required, mortar can be supplied in silos which can hold up to 22 cubic metres or 30 tonnes of dry mix. The silo produces consistent, ready mixed and ready to use mortar at the touch of a button. For smaller projects, the mortar is available in 25kg bags and can be mixed in a conventional drum mixer.

There are two standard mortars which cover a range of likely applications both for conservation and new build:

Limetec eminently hydraulic mortar

For use where a higher level of durability is required i.e. masonry exposed to severe weather and underground work.

Limetec moderately hydraulic mortar

For most normal applications i.e. cavity brickwork, blockwork and stonework.

The use of dry mortar and silo technology now allows lime mortar to compete on an equal footing with cement mortars - the argument for using lime has never been so strong!

Breathe Hemp Insulation

Breathe™ is a natural fibre, thermally efficient insulation that can be used in new and existing buildings. Suitable for loft, framed buildings and inter-floor applications, Breathe™ is made from sustainably UK grown hemp and flax fibres and has a low carbon footprint.

Produced in the UK, Breathe™ comprises hemp and flax fibres. The fibre is separated from the woody core of the plant in an entirely mechanical process without the use of chemicals and generates no waste. The woody core co-product from the plant is then utilised in a variety of other materials. This includes Tradical® Hemcrete®, an innovative material for carbon negative highly thermally efficient walls. The natural hemp and flax fibres are bound together with only 5% polyester binder to create a semi- rigid batt.

Breathe™ is an energy saving product that delivers a similar performance to more conventional materials, Breathe™ combines low thermal conductivity and thermal mass insulating against the cold, keeping your house warm in winter but cool in summer.

To meet UK fire performance standards, the fibres in Breathe™ are treated with a simple non-reacting compound to achieve Euroclass E fire performance rating. Breathe™ complies with the fire performance requirements of the Building Regulations.

Thermafleece

There now three types of Thermafleece available. The original Thermafleece, which utilises hollow wool fibres, blended to an optimum density producing first class thermal and acoustic performance whilst minimising impact on the environment.

Thermafleece is manufactured to meet the highest quality and performance standards and using British sheep's wool, Thermafleece is the only wool based insulation to hold BBA certification ensuring full compliance with current UK Building Regulations.

Like Thermafleece the new Thermafleece PB20 product harnesses the excellent insulating qualities of British sheep's wool. This is then blended with a mix of recycled polyester to create a sustainable insulating product that can be easily compressed and packaged into a tight roll without losing any thickness once unrolled.

For contractors working on busy build and renovation sites, this has several distinct advantages. The compact nature of the product means it requires less storage space on site and also makes working in cramped installation areas a great deal easier.

Lithotherm UFH

Lithotherm tiles are a very quick, simple and cost effective way to install underfloor heating. The tiles replace a screed that is normally used in solid floor construction and uniquely provides a system combining high thermal mass with very fast surface heating times.

Lithotherm tiles are made from waste brick, which is crushed into aggregate to produce these tiles. The system can be covered with either tiles or floorboards and because it goes down as a dry system there is no waiting period before the finish can be applied.

The system uses a high quality, swiss made, aluminium cored pipe, which connects into a standard manifold and can therefore be combined with any heat source. The system works especially well with ground source or solar sources as it is designed to run at temperatures as low as 30C rather than the higher temperatures more commonly found in underfloor systems.
