Product overview.

Where is it used?

  • Baumit StarContact White can be used to bond EPS boards to masonry surfaces and as the base coat for the render system.
  • Baumit StarContact White can be used to prepare coarse grained mineral and synthetic renders to receive a fine finish render.
  • It can, with Baumit StarTex fibre glass mesh, be used as a base coat for render carriers.

How much will you need?

Baumit StarContact has a density of 1.35kg per mm per m² (1mm thickness of plaster over 1m²). Each 25kg bag of Baumit RK70 will cover up to 6m² as an adhesive at 3mm thickness or 3.5m² as a base coat at 5mm thickness.

How is it used?

  • Baumit StarContact White comes in 25kg bags and is best mixed, using clean tap water, with a plaster whisk to a smooth lump free consistency or it can be spray applied.
  • It’s ‘sticky’ nature means it is very easy to apply to a whole range of backgrounds.
  • As an adhesive apply as either a perimeter and three dabs through the centre or as an even 3mm coat to the back of the EPS insulation boards.
  • As a base coat or meshed coat, apply evenly with a steel trowel, making sure temperatures are above 5°C and out of strong sunlight.
  • Comb the surface with a notched trowel to ensure the correct thickness of plaster has been applied.
  • Whilst still wet, lay in the Baumit StarTex mesh and trowel until the mesh has disappeared.
  • Trowel to a smooth finish with a steel float or spatula.
Technical Details

How long does it take to set?

Setting times vary with temperature and humidity but in the summer the product will usually stiffen enough to finish in a few hours and set hard overnight. In winter stiffening may be extended to more than one day with hardening more than two days.

Material in action.

Baumit StarContact is a good, all-round render and is used as the adhesive coat and also as the meshed coat or base coat render layer, number 4 in this image, in the Baumit StarSystem.

This render can be used with EPS, mineral wool and phenolic boards as well as being ideal for internal use on plasterable wood fibre boards. Because it is lime based, it is lovely and sticky and easy to apply and also very flexible once cured.
