“A quick and easy way to reinforce the corners of your openings” – Chris Brookman

Product overview.

Where is it used?

  • UdiREINFORCEMENT corner strengthening mesh is a fibreglass mesh piece that is bedded in to the base coat render on all of our wood fibre insulation systems.
  • It sits on the outer face in the top corners of all openings and the bottom corners of window openings, ensuring that no cracks form in the outer face of the openings.
  • This is used in conjunction with UdiREINFORCEMENT 3D corner strengthening mesh and UdiREINFORCEMENT corner protection profile to ensure crack free openings.

How much do I need?

  • We would suggest that you use one piece of UdiREINFORCEMENT corner strengthening mesh in both top corners of each opening and the bottom corners of window openings.

How is it used?

  • The UdiREINFORCEMENT corner strengthening mesh should be installed after the main mesh has been applied.
  • Whilst the render is still wet (immediately after the main mesh has been troweled in) the mesh should be placed in the corners of the openings and troweled in so that it is no longer visible on the surface of the render.
  • Apply a very thin layer over (less than 1mm) whilst the render is wet if required.
  • For more information see our how-to video above (skip to 7 mins to see how to install them).

Product overview.

Where are they used?

  • As a walling or ceiling board.
  • Between bedrooms and bathrooms
  • Bathroom and kitchen ceilings
  • Stud partitions

How are they used?

  • EBB Clay boards should be fixed using either drywall screws or stainless screws (depending on plaster to be applied) to a timber frame at a maximum of 625mm centres for walling and 417mm centres for ceiling applications.
  • 36mm plastic or stainless steel washers should also be used for ceiling applications.
  • As with all boarding, vertical joints should be staggered by at least 1 stud to avoid cracking.
  • Once the EBB Clay boards are installed they can be plastered with either lime based plasters (use stainless steel fixings) or clay based plasters (normal drywall screws are fine for this).
  • The joints should be reinforced with 100mm wide reinforcing, bedded in the plaster, although fully meshing the base coat works best.

How much will you need?

  • The EBB Clay boards are 1250 x 625mm and 22mm thick, they cover an area of 0.78 m² per board. Allow at least 5% for wastage.

Are they heavy?

  • The boards themselves weigh around 23kg each so need careful handling and for ceiling applications should be installed with a plasterboard lift.

What is their thermal conductivity?

  • The clay boards are not designed to be a thermal insulator but their thermal conductivity is around 0.47 W/mK, similar to many lime or clay plasters.

Material in action.

Here you can see the UdiREINFORCEMENT corner strengthening mesh being laid in over the corner beads. They are usually applied last to the window or door reveals, just before the main mesh is laid over the top.

If you’re not sure about which order to apply the various reinforcements to the corners, please contact us.
