Where is it used?

• Foamed Glass FG40 is used to provide the insulation under solid ground floors.
• It is used to create an insulated solid surface on to which further insulation and underfloor heating systems can be laid.
• FG40 can be laid around the external perimeter of buildings to add insulation and reduce heat loss into the ground from the plinth area.

How is it used?

• In a solid floor application, start by reducing the ground level to the correct depth.
• Lay a geotextile membrane over bare soil to prevent soil from migrating up between the foamglass aggregate during compaction.
• Pour the loose aggregate onto the membrane to a thickness of 15 – 20% more than the final required thickness, up to a maximum of 250mm.
• Compact the FG40 using a standard plate compactor. Pass over each area 3-4 times to ensure thorough compaction, regularly checking levels.
• If the finished level is too low, small amounts of FG40 can be added and further compacted until the desired level is reached.

How much will you need?

• FG40 compacts between 15 and 20% so if you’re aiming for a 200mm layer, install roughly 250mm of loose product before compacting.
• Foamed Glass FG40 comes in 2m3 or 2000litre bags which, compacted, should cover 8m2 at 200mm.
