Close-ups.

Take a closer look at this product with these additional images.

Image description: This closeup shows the profiling of the Baumit Window Profile – Ideal bead (the same as the UdiREINFORCEMENT external render edging strip). The set of fine ridges labelled A are where the base coat comes to and the  set of ridges labelled B is where the finish coat would come to. The yellow strip can be peeled off to allow plastic sheeting to be stuck over the window whilst rendering. This section, labelled 3, is then removed down the dotted line, releasing parts 1 and 2 creating a weather tight movement joint. If that doesn’t make sense, please contact us!

Image description: Here you can see the internal version of the bead, the UdiREINFORCEMENT internal render edging strip. If you click on the image you can see the difference in the moulding of the bead. This one has a self adhesive foam strip which sticks to the frame and forms the edge of the internal plaster, creating a very tidy, airtight seal. This can then be covered over with decorators caulk if required

“A great product for new build and restoration projects alike as it combines traditional materials in a modern format”

Product overview.

Where are they used?

  • UdiREINFORCEMENT render edging strips and Baumit Window Profiles are an exterior edging profile with fibreglass mesh welded to their surface for strength.
  • They have a self adhesive strip to form a permanent bond to the surface of the frame and allows up to 2mm movement whilst remaining weather tight.
  • The beads should be used where the render meets any door or window frames with our wood fibre systems.
  • They can also be used with any other thin layer render systems such as acrylic, silicate, silicone or polymer renders.

How are they used?

  • The beads should be installed prior to the main mesh.
  • Cut the beads to length and ensure the surface of the frame is clean, dry and free of dust.
  • Remove the peel off strip from the bottom of the sponge strip and firmly press in to the corner, with the yellow strip on the window side of the bead.
  • It is best to install the side pieces before the top to ensure no water ingress at the joint between the pieces.
  • Once in place, remove the yellow peel off strips on the snap off section of the bead and stick on a plastic sheet to protect the window during rendering.
  • When applying renders, the base coat should reach the level of the ridged section of the bead and the finish should be level with the edge of the bead. See the above image on the left.
  • Once the renders are dry simply remove the snap off section to create a clean edge.
  • For more information see our how-to video.
Technical Details

How much will you need?

  • Each length of UdiREINFORCEMENT render edging strip or Baumit Window profile bead is 2.4m long and pieces should not be joined, so for each side of the frame use a single piece.

Product overview.

Where are they used?

  • As a walling or ceiling board.
  • Between bedrooms and bathrooms
  • Bathroom and kitchen ceilings
  • Stud partitions

How are they used?

  • EBB Clay boards should be fixed using either drywall screws or stainless screws (depending on plaster to be applied) to a timber frame at a maximum of 625mm centres for walling and 417mm centres for ceiling applications.
  • 36mm plastic or stainless steel washers should also be used for ceiling applications.
  • As with all boarding, vertical joints should be staggered by at least 1 stud to avoid cracking.
  • Once the EBB Clay boards are installed they can be plastered with either lime based plasters (use stainless steel fixings) or clay based plasters (normal drywall screws are fine for this).
  • The joints should be reinforced with 100mm wide reinforcing, bedded in the plaster, although fully meshing the base coat works best.

How much will you need?

  • The EBB Clay boards are 1250 x 625mm and 22mm thick, they cover an area of 0.78 m² per board. Allow at least 5% for wastage.

Are they heavy?

  • The boards themselves weigh around 23kg each so need careful handling and for ceiling applications should be installed with a plasterboard lift.

What is their thermal conductivity?

  • The clay boards are not designed to be a thermal insulator but their thermal conductivity is around 0.47 W/mK, similar to many lime or clay plasters.

This image shows the beads once they are rendered in. They create a very nice, neat weathertight edge between the system and the windows but do bear in mind that they are white!!
