What are the benefits of an eaves overhang? – CIJA?

In this episode we discuss, why we like a big eaves overhang? Beyond the look, a deeper overhang keeps walls sheltered, helps finishes last longer and protects windows and sills from driving rain, while cutting down splashback at the base of the wall. It earns its keep in summer too. On our bungalow retrofit, the midday shadow sat just below the window sills at the height of the heatwave, keeping solar gain down and the inside cool.
