Weather resistant VCL membrane for CLT – Ampatex Solero
Ampatex Solero VCL membrane is:-
- a triple layer, tear proof, weather resistant, vapour control underlay.
- suitable for all cross-laminated timber (CLT) and above rafter insulation applications.
- a robust, easy to use, airtightness layer.
- an anti-slip, driving rain resistant membrane, suitable for up to 3 months weather exposure.
Product overview
Where is it used?
- For use on the outside of cross-laminated timber (CLT) or LVL structures as an airtightness and vapour control layer.
- For use on CLT/LVL roofs or when insulation is added above rafters to create a warm deck.
How is it used?
- Ampatex Solero membrane can be bonded to the surface of CLT/LVL structures using the Ampacoll DT double sided tape. It can also be stapled in place along the edges of the membrane, so long as the staples are covered by tape when the joints are taped.
- All joints should overlap by at least 100mm and should be taped with Ampacoll Flexx Pro tape prior to being over boarded over with insulation to ensure airtightness.
- Use the Ampacoll Primax Primer and Ampacoll DT double sided tape to stick the membrane down to wood fibre or OSB surfaces prior to counter battening.
- Any penetrations of rafters, vents, ducts or pipes should be sealed with Ampacoll BK 535 penetration sealing tape.
How much will you need?
Each roll of Ampatex Solero membrane is 50m long and 1.5m wide. It covers an area of 70m2 including overlaps.

Do I need to tape the joints?
- Yes, you should always tape the laps, usually with the Ampacoll XT breathable tape or Ampacoll Flex tape to ensure the airtightness and functioning of the membrane.
- Any damaged areas should also be taped prior to being covered with insulation.
How long can I leave it exposed?
This membrane is very UV stable and can withstand up to 3 months of weathering without deterioration. Beyond this the sun can begin to degrade the strength and weather resistance of the membrane.
